Small Bowel Video Capsule Enteroscopy

New advancements in technology have allowed for the development of a small pill that has a camera in it, which can visualize the small intestine. There are roughly 20-25 feet of small intestine that are not visualized by either EGD or colonoscopy. In patients with anemia despite normal EGD and colonoscopy, or who have diarrhea/abdominal pain, this procedure allows for visualization of the remainder of the GI tract. This procedure is performed in the office and does not require anesthesia to perform.
